Since July 2021, the Slotplaats restaurant has reopened. The new owners will present guests with unique dishes prepared purely with fresh, sustainable ingredients from local farmers and suppliers. If you have also ordered a picnic lunch, you can be sure that it is composed entirely of organic and local produce. At De Slotplaats, you will also find a wild picking garden and the Oerrrspeelbos, where various activities take place and children can discover nature.

De Slotplaats is an ancient estate and one of the larger Frisian nature reserves. In 1668, the Aylva van Burmania family built the castle, called the Blauwhuis. The Blauwhuis was demolished in 1838 and only the castle farm remained. This farm has been owned by Natuurmonumenten since 1997. The building De Slotplaats is the icon of the estate. Behind the Slotplaats is the Sterrenbos which was designed in the 18th century by Johan Hermann Knoop, commissioned by Jonkheer Edzard Hobbe van Burmania.

Nice to know: The Star Forest is also home to the Burmania Column (5-minute walk) and the Star Ramp.
