Historie
At Buinerveld, there is an unusual pingoruin: it is dry and contains no peat. Yet it is a pingoruin. Because the pits in the Buinerveld do not retain water, no peat formation could occur. The reason they are not aquifers, as many other pingoruins are, has to do with the subsoil. Due to the uplift of the Hondsrug, there are highly permeable sands and gravels at this site. This allowed meltwater, and later rainwater, to easily sink into the subsoil.
